Carminho is one of the great voices of Fado and one of Portugal's most internationally recognised artists.
The daughter of renowned fado singer Teresa Siqueira, she made her public singing debut at the age of 12 at the Coliseu in Lisbon. Fado is her language and it's a good thing it is, for all of us who never tire of seeing and hearing her!
Her debut album - Fado - went platinum in Portugal and was considered the best album of 2011 by British magazine Songlines. In 2012, she released Alma, which reached the top of several international charts and conquered Brazil, with sold-out concerts in Rio de Janeiro and all over the country. In 2013, Carminho established herself as one of Portugal's most international artists, taking her voice to the four corners of the world. In Portugal, she was honoured with a Golden Globe and the Carlos Paredes Award, and her two albums reached double platinum status. At the end of 2014 she released Canto and her relationship with Brazil took on even deeper roots. In 2016, following an invitation from the family of one of the world's greatest composers, she recorded Carminho sings Tom Jobim and was awarded the Golden Globe for best interpreter. In 2019, Carminho returns with a new disc of originals. Maria is the fifth of her career and her most personal yet. It includes several of her own songs and she also signs the production.
